Cafe Medina

A friend had raved about the fabulous waffles at Cafe Medina on Beatty Street. My brother was in town, and I thought this would be a good time to check it out for breakfast. A quick internet search revealed that Cafe Medina is located next door to Belgium restaurant, Chambar, another restaurant that I am fond of. I started to get really excited about breakfast; especially when I read the online menu that the waffles are served with, amoung other items, dark chocolate and raspberry caramel.

Upon looking at the menu once we were seated in the cafe, the waffles were forgotten as we read over the main breakfast list. I ordered the omelette of the day: potatoes, tomatoes, cheese, mixed herbs and eggs baked in a cast iron skillet. The potatoes were divinely flavored with herbs and there were large chunks of cheese melted throughout. My brother and father had the fricassee, which is also baked in a skillet and includes 2 fried eggs, roasted potatoes, braised short ribs, arugula, caramelized onions and applewood cheddar.

I'll have to go back another day for the waffles...

DeSerres

(Formerly Loomis Art Store)

DeSerres is a delight for creative types. Gorgeous papers for the scrapbooker and card maker. Oils, paints and canvases for the painter. Funky wall stencils and stickers for the home decorator. I've been looking for photo albums; trying to get years of photos under control! They have started stocking the beautiful SemiKolon photo albums and other paper products. I bought a gorgeous hot pink album for my Cuba pictures.

DeSerres is located on Broadway at Granville in Vancouver, BC

Essential Packaging

I go to Essential Packaging for packaging items for my photography. Every time I'm there... I drool over the different shape and size boxes in a candy-color spectrum and gorgeous corresponding gift bags in beautiful prints. The nice thing about these items, is that they aren't too expensive. Much cheaper than the gift and paper stores. I always thought it would be great to stock up on gift bags, tissue paper, printed cello bags, ribbon, boxes etc. for the year... alas, I'm not that organized!

Essential Packaging is located at 66A & 176th in Surrey. Check the hours before you go, because they close earlier than you expect!
